COME PLAY BINGO ON THURSDAY AND SATURDAY EVENINGS

Each Thursday and Saturday evening, our Council sponsors a Bingo game played at the Council hall. This is a major fund raiser for the Council. Not only does this have a lot of social value, but you can win money, $150 a game and a $700 Coverall. Every Thursday evening, we pay out more than $3,000 in prizes. Come on out and bring the wife and/or a friend. Games start at 6:00 PM and are usually over by 10:30 PM.

Cardinal Ritter High School plays Bingo in our hall every Sunday.

FINANCIAL SECRETARY'S NOTES

Our K of C field agent, Curt Jones, was transferred to the Northern Indiana district on May 1, 2003, and has now moved his family to Crown Point. Any member with insurance concerns or questions should contact our General Agent, John J. Stackowicz, (574) 282-1082 or kcga2480@hotmail.com or customer service at (800) 380-9995. John’s office address is 3603 East Jefferson Blvd, South Bend, IN 46615-3603.

Christopher B. Laugle became the first member to pay his 2004 dues & special assessment for the second year in a row. Way to go, Chris! However, we still have 18 members owing 2003 dues including four who also owe 2002 dues. If any of these gentlemen is having any physical ailment or financial difficulty preventing payment at this time, we are always glad to work with the member. However, he or his family must first let me know so that we can help. Also, remember you must be current in dues to request a final withdrawal. You can’t just cancel your membership.

The four owing both 2002 & 2003 dues are Jeff Dakin, Craig Giblin, Lew Sharp, Jr., and John Wiley II. Those still unpaid for 2003 are Tom Albrecht, Shawn Brennan, John Ellis, Jr., Stephen Herr, Al Holok, Joe Hudson, John Kwaitkowski, Rob Molzan, Dave Nahas, Mike Pittman, Jerry Sadowicz, John Watson, IV, Terry Wiegand, and Jules Wieseman. If you know any of these gentlemen, please call this matter to their attention. They face suspension for non-payment of dues. Our retention chairman, John R. Williams, Jr., PGK, will be contacting these members very soon.

Remember that the telephone number at our Council building is (317) 240-3682, not, (317) 271-4933, my home phone number. I’m glad to field any calls so received, but it often delays the caller in reaching the right person.

Take Care & God Bless Us All, Graham D. Morey, Financial Secretary

ANNUAL BUDGET

The first reading of the Annual Budget was read on September 22, 2003. By-laws require two additional readings plus its publication one time in the Newsletter. See attachment. You will note that there are some extraordinary numbers in the 2003-04 budget necessitated primarily by revised Indiana Gaming Regulations. The two most obvious items are income from the Westside Boosters and expense to 3682 Realty Corporation. Previously, these funds were transferred from WSB directly to the Realty Corporation. The accounting for these funds must now pass through the Council books. The other pass through item is Sports receipts from our Golf and Bowling Leagues. Checks are now written from the Council books to Thatcher Golf Course and Raceway Lanes for the respective activity. Depositing and expensing funds in this manner will assist the Council in meeting its charitable donations quotas as defined by the State of Indiana. Second reading of the budget will take place at the October 6th business meeting. Third reading and vote by the assembled membership will occur on October 20th. Please attend either of these meetings if you have questions or need further clarification. John Kistner, GK

BUSINESS MEETINGS

The Grand Knight has decided to end a trial period of having only one formal business meeting each month. We will return to the normal format beginning in October. Business meetings will again be on the 1st and 3rd Monday. Minutes from the previous meeting will be available in print form prior to the meeting, and will also be available on our Web site. This will eliminate the need to review the minutes during the current meeting unless there are changes or corrections. Members are encouraged to attend meetings, or at the minimum visit the Web site so that you know what is going on at “your” Council. The Grand Knight will call for Officer’s meetings as necessary.

GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE

The month of October will conclude with a membership appeal at St. Susanna Parish in Plainfield on the weekend of October 25th and 26th. Hopefully, this will be the first of several mass recruiting efforts during the next few months. These membership drives are in conjunction with the Supreme Office directive to attract new members to Knights of Columbus councils nationally. I would encourage all Knights who belong to St. Susanna parish to assist your officers in this effort after each Mass on the 25th and 26th

Dan Krodel has been appointed to fill the Chancellor’s position for the remainder of my term as Grand Knight. He has also been appointed to the Realty Board. Dan replaces Peter Oleschuck who resigned from his position due to a job change and having to work weekday evenings. Peter will continue to work on Bingo D caller’s team, and has agreed to help out in other activities when possible.

I continue to receive favorable comments about our 50th Anniversary Mass and Celebration. I also received a nice note from the Franciscan Brothers of Christ the King who sang at the Mass. A picture album prepared by Craig Carr is available for you to view at the Council. PGK’s Ralph Hobbs, Tom Wolfe, and Ed O’Riley have provided other photos. Also, we have ordered additional sets of the commerative coasters. They are available for $8. They make excellent Christmas gifts. Send me an e-mail, johnek@indy.net or call 271-8170 if you would like to place an order.

A final financial report on the 50th Anniversary. We had total receipts of $3,630 and expenses of $5,049.92. This resulted in a cost to the Council of $1,419.92. We had an original budget of $1,000. 194 dinners were served to members, spouses, widows, and guests. We had 180 paid reservations.

Future events. Our annual Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 17th at the Council. Our members only Christmas Party will be Monday, December 15th. Holy Family Council will host the monthly Bishop Chatard 4th Degree Dinner and meeting on Tuesday, October 7th. I would encourage all of our 4th Degree members to attend. You will need to call with a reservation.

October is the month to conduct parish Right-to-Life fund-raisers. Be a responsible Knight and volunteer in your parish,

God Bless you, John Kistner, Grand Knight
